A water margin plant ideal for the pond, bog garden or very moist soil. It was once grown in the Norfolk Broads and gathered for the annual Gladden harvest. Medicinal herb, the root can contain toxins and can be carcinogenic, only the American and Siberian forms are used in medicine. It is widely used in modern medicines. The leaves can be used in woven mats and in basket making. Sow seed in very moist fertile muddy compost in pots and stand pot in water, germinate at 20-22 deg C for 2-4 weeks, remove from heat and stand in cold area 0 to 4 deg C for 4-6 weeks gradually move to warmth for seed germination. A challenge this seed is not easy to germinate. Plant out in pond margins or very moist soil in full sun.
