Allium ursinum - Wild Garlic
Use Wild Garlic leaves raw or cooked, a great addition to a salad having a strong garlic scent. The bulb is used raw or cooked and best harvested early summer to winter when the plant is dormant. Both leaves and bulb are best sliced finely and added to salads. Best sow Ramsons outdoors autumn or pre chill if sowing later. Grow on in a greenhouse/under glass for the first year and plant out when the bulbs are dormant in the summer.

Wild Liquorice
Common Rest Harrow grows in rough grass areas, scented pink flowers attract wildlife. Habitat meadows and walls. Roots used to be used cooked or raw as a liquorice substitute, young shoots used as a vegetable. Herbal uses for kidney disorders and gallstones.
Scarify or pre-soak the seed for 24 hours in warm water and sow the seed in the middle of spring in situ. The seed can also be sown in a cold frame in the autumn  Prefers a sunny spot in well drained neutral to alkaline soil.

Used since early times, castor oil is added to a number of products from soap to lubricating oils. Used internally for constipation and externally as an enema. Caution all parts of this plant especially the seeds are toxic containing one of the most deadly poisons Ricin. Should only be used at the approved dosage.

Hesperis matronalis - Dame's Violet, Sweet Rocket, Dame's Rocket, Garden Rocket
Rocket sweet a mixture of violet and white flowers. The young leaves are used in salads as a cress substitute, it is more pungent than rocket or cress and is used sparingly. Was once used dried on board ship as they are rich in vitamin C. The leaves are picked prior to flowering.
It is a short lived perennial and is often grown as a biennial. During summer evenings the flowers give off an intense fragrance. A good attractor for bees, butterflies and moths. Prefers a well drained site in sun or part shade. Sow spring in situ or indoors plant out summer, sow July for planting out the following spring.

Having a stronger flavour than Eruca sativa, a strong peppery flavour and extremely tender, use in salads and stir-fry. A very health giving plant aiding digestion, acting as a tonic and purifies the blood. Successional sowing of wild rocket seeds will ensure a continual fresh supply. Can be sown all year round in milder climates or given some protection.

A medicinal herb and ornamental groundcover. Rupturewort has been used to treat kidney and bladder complaints, relieves coughs and catarrh. Can also be used as a cleanser for the skin. Sow in early spring in a cold frame grow in under glass for first winter. Position in well drained soil in full sun.
